Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been very popular with fans of the Pokemon franchise, and have received praise for implementing some new gameplay elements. These include an open-world exploration element, with players no longer being gated into a linear path of progression throughout the game, as well as a new battle mechanic called Terastallization. This is similar to Mega Evolution in previous games, as it allows players to boost up their Pokemon and unlock different mechanics to give them an edge. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have had plenty of bugs as well, but overall these have somehow managed to not significantly impact the player experience.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player Nukeradiation77 posted an amusing picture to the Pokemon subreddit showing their Slowpoke supposedly in the middle of Terastallizing with a tree sprouting from its head. The image has text on it saying “Slowpoke has Terastallized into the Grass-type!” which references the new Terastallization mechanic in which Pokemon can change their appearance and type to match its Tera Type. When a Pokemon Terastallizes, they will change their appearance to look more crystallized and shiny, and often have a new model that references the Tera Type they are changing into. It can also be quite powerful, as Smogon is considering a Terastallization ban in competitive Pokemon.

In this case, of course, Nukeradiation77’s Slowpoke wasn’t actually Terastallizing, but the tree’s placement provided the perfect opportunity for a great joke and Reddit post. Pokemon that actually Terastallize, like the Drakloak in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, are very easy to pick out due to their unique appearance and improved battle performance. It seems to be a very interesting battle mechanic, as well as one that players are generally embracing in the single player story mode.

Of course, despite how funny Pokemon fans find Nukeradiation77’s image of their Slowpoke, it is still indicative of some bugs present in Scarlet and Violet. It has only been about a month since the games released, but from a company as big as Game Freak, it seems reasonable for players to expect some significant bug fixes to be rolled out. While Update 1.1 for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet did bring some minor bug fixes, players are still waiting for the more major problems to be rectified. Despite that, fans still seem to be having fun with the newest Pokemon games, and there’s no doubt that will continue to be the case.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for Nintendo Switch.
