At the moment, we’re running under the assumption that McCaffrey will return after he almost played last Thursday night. Jones and Carson are a bit trickier to project, especially given how cautious the Packers have been about injuries this year and how Pete Carroll tends to be optimistic about every Seahawks injury. For now, both will be included in the rankings, but keep an eye on them, especially Jones ahead of a Thursday night game. (Update: Carson has been ruled out for Week 9.)
WEEK 9 PPR RANKINGS:Quarterback | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
The rankings will be bolstered a bit by the return of Houston, Arizona, Washington, and Jacksonville from byes, as David Johnson, Chase Edmonds, Antonio Gibson, and James Robinson can all be trusted as top-20 plays. Losing the Rams, Bengals, Eagles, and Browns will hurt the rankings a little bit, but given that Joe Mixon (foot) and Miles Sanders (hamstring) were dealing with injuries, their owners won’t complain about the week off. Owners with their respective handcuffs, Giovani Bernard and Boston Scott, can feel free to move on from them to add other pieces this week, as we assume those top two RBs will return to action after the bye.
WEEK 9 STANDARD RANKINGS:Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
There are still plenty of frustrating RB rotations that are impacting the RB2/flex tier. Devin Singletary ended up leading the Bills in rushing yards in Week 8, but his teammate, Zack Moss, scored a pair of rushing TDs. Against the Colts, the Lions continued to alternate Adrian Peterson and D’Andre Swift, and Kerryon Johnson vultured a TD from the duo. It’s hard to know which back will get the all-important goal-line touches each week, and while Swift would seemingly be the one with the best future outlook, it’s hard to trust Matt Patricia to give him enough touches each week.
WEEK 9 DFS CASH LINEUPS: DraftKings | FanDuel
Mark Ingram (ankle) figures to once again be out, which gives value to Gus Edwards and JK Dobbins (@ Colts). Another tough matchup awaits, though, so neither can be counted on as more than a flex. The Chargers duo of Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley (vs. Raiders) is in a similar position, but at least their matchup is favorable.
WEEK 9 DFS TOURNAMENT LINEUPS: DraftKings | FanDuel
The Jets (vs. Patriots) and 49ers (vs. Packers) feature two more committees with favorable matchups. If Tevin Coleman (knee) is out on Thursday, JaMycal Hasty figures to be a worthwhile starter in standard leagues (with Jerick McKinnon commanding more value in PPR leagues). For the Jets, neither Frank Gore nor La’Mical Perine has done enough to merit anything more than a start as a desperation flex.
Reminder: As always, we expect to make plenty of changes to these RB rankings throughout the week, so check back for updates and analysis.
