The first standout performance of Week 2 came on Thursday night, when Chris Godwin set his single-game career marks for both receptions (eight) and yards (121) while catching a touchdown from Jameis Winston in a win over the Panthers. For the second-straight week, Godwin outproduced Mike Evans, and it’s getting very close to the time Godwin leapfrogs the expected Bucs’ No. 1 in our rankings. This week, they’re nearly side-by-side ahead of a matchup with a Giants defense that allowed more than 400 yards through the air in Week 1 and gave up good games to both John Brown and Cole Beasley in Week 2....
There will undoubtedly be more surprises in Week 5, but we’re hoping that this time we can predict some of them. Jay Ajayi hasn’t been able to do anything against the weak Jets and Saints defense, and he faces another matchup (vs. Titans) that looks extremely favorable on paper. Can he make it three straight disappointments or will the third time be a charm? Latavius Murray is back into a starting role again, and we believe he can produce this week like he did last year....
As we ruminated on last week, it feels like there are fewer PPR-specific receivers than there used to be. Cole Beasley remains a prominent name coming off his seven-catch, 75-yard Week 4, but he might be stuck catching passes from Matt Barkley in Week 5. Christian Kirk looked like he could be a new candidate, but the Cardinals struggled while spreading the ball around against Seattle on Sunday. This balanced spending approach should work out well for us. We spent up a bit more than usual at QB to get a red-hot player in a solid matchup, and despite doing that, we still spent at least $4,500 on all of our other roster spots except for one. An excellent sleeper at the TE position made this lineup possible, and while the move comes with some risk, TE is a TD-dependent position anyway, so going with a boom-or-bust option there to avoid volatile players elsewhere should prove to be a good strategy....
We actually really don’t like Eagles TEs this week, as both Ertz and Dallas Goedert make our busts list. Quarterback is a who’s-who of the position with Prescott, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Future Hall of Famers (and Prescott) can’t have good games each week. Running back features the top two rookies, Josh Jacobs and David Montgomery, both of whom we expect to have rough weeks, too. And the defenses include the full gamut, from the team facing the Dolphins to the team that could face either Matt Moore or Patrick Mahomes....
